A connected environment with iPad

The King’s College celebrates 40 years of Excellence in Education this year and is an integral part of the rich and vibrant community of Wellard in Western Australia. As a co-educational K-12 Christian school, The King’s College provides an environment where students can grow while benefiting from an experience-rich education made for the 21st century.

Over the past couple of years, The King’s College has grown rapidly, while simultaneously expanding its digital program with a clear objective: to provide students with consistent access to technology. To support this vision, they introduced Apple devices for teaching and learning through a managed device program with the following devices:

  • 2:1 iPad from Kindergarten to Year 3
  • 1:1 iPad and iPad Air through Years 4 to 10, and Year 11 students
  • 1:1 MacBook Air for Year 12 student, with a transition planned to iPad Air in 2027

“Our students work with iPad all the way from Kindergarten to Year 12, offering one learning device that students know and are familiar with”, says Roan Venter IT Manager from The King’s College.

The college has been working with JB Hi-Fi Education to procure the devices for their program, supported by ongoing device care services ensuring staff and students can focus on what matters most.

Why iPad works for King’s College

For The King’s College, iPad has proved to be the right device capable of supporting teaching and learning while being operationally efficient and cost-effective.

iPad is a powerful device, capable of running all the apps and the web-based functions used across the college. It’s also a versatile device and is straightforward to deploy, manage, and scale across the school.

A key benefit that made a difference is the integration of Apple education apps such as Classwork and Classroom, which help teachers to personalise learning for every student.

With Classroom, teachers can view student screens and launch apps and resources on their students iPads, helping them to manage lessons and support students in real time.

“We chose iPad for the ease of management and implementation for our IT department, as well as all the management tools available, such as Apple Classroom and Classwork,” says Mr Venter.

“Having tools that allow our teachers to keep the students on task within the digital learning space is phenomenal.”

Beyond device and app management, key features of the iPad such as multitasking, annotations and battery life also help students to get through their day. “We’re very thankful of the great battery life that comes with iPad,” says Mr Venter

Lastly, privacy is another important consideration for The King’s College. Apple devices are designed and built with privacy and security in mind. Innovative privacy technologies and techniques minimise how much user data Apple, or anyone else, can access. And every Apple device combines hardware and software, designed to work together for maximum security.

“It’s great to have a product lineup, like Apple’s, that values privacy. It’s an area that we haven’t had to think about or plan around, it’s just done.”

The King’s College has built a consistent and reliable digital learning environment with iPad, that empowers students and teachers at all levels.

Supporting their device program with Tech Care+ Fleet

The King’s College has built a strong culture with students around an awareness of responsible device usage.

However, with a fleet close to 1,000 devices across the campus, occasional mishaps can still occur. And when they do, The King’s College relies on Tech Care+ Fleet from JB Hi-Fi Education to assist the school and its students with recovering the device and restoring the student’s access to technology.

Under the 3-year term of the Tech Care+ Fleet plan, The King’s College has access to unlimited refresh service requests (for any reason)1. So, regardless of the damage, devices are restored to optimal working conditions2.

To keep students connected, Tech Care+ Fleet provides the school access to a 2% loan pool stock, allowing instant device swaps3 while a device is being restored.

“The process is really straight forward for us,” says Mr Venter.

“A student visits our IT department and communicates the issue. Then, our IT team will assess it and process a Tech Care+ claim if required. We provide a replacement device while the original is repaired.”

“We enjoy the fact that there is no grey area. There’s no back and forth asking what happened. We don’t have to justify the damage or complete excessive paperwork. It’s simple — damaged device, service fee, replacement issued.”

“Students have a much shorter turnaround time without a device, reducing the impact on learning.”

“The impact on the IT team and student learning is enormous, freeing up time to focus on supporting the school.”

By combining a consistent device ecosystem through iPad with a reliable device care solution, The King’s College has built a digital program that works for students, teachers and the IT team alike.

Devices are easy to deploy, manage and support — and when issues occur, they can be resolved quickly without disrupting learning.

The result is a device program where every student has access to the tools they need for their learning, while the IT team can focus on delivering technology initiatives that continue to support the school community.
